1. Russia, Turkey sign deal

• Russia and Turkey have signed a contract on the delivery of the 2nd batch of formidable S-400 air defense missile system.

• The sides are now discussing the financial arrangement of implementing the contract.

• Russia and Turkey signed a loan agreement for the supply of S-400 air defense systems in Sept 2017.

• This resulted in the US suspending deliveries of F-35 fighter jets to its NATO ally.

2. ‘Abhilash’ receives International Award

• A short film based on lockdown titled ‘Abhilash’ has bagged an International Award at the ‘Bengal Lockdown online film Festival’ in the Best Social Message Film category.

• The festival, organized under the supervision of organizer Subhamapurva, witnessed contest from around 135 films from around the world.

• Out of these titles, only 50 titles from 20 countries were officially nominated.

3. Country’s longest ‘ropeway over a river

• The Assam Govt. has inaugurated a 1.8-km- long ropeway over the Brahmaputra, connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati.

• It is the longest ropeway on a river in India. Built at a cost of Rs 56 crore, it comprises of two cabins, each with a capacity of 30 passengers and one operator.

• It takes eight minutes to traverse the entire length of the ropeway.

4. Government of India and AlIB Sign Agreement

• The Govt. of India, Govt. of Maharashtra, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AlIB) have signed a loan agreement.

• It has been signed for a $500 million Mumbai Urban Transport Project-ll to improve the network capacity, service quality, and safety of the suburban railway system in Mumbai.

• It is expected to increase network capacity in the region.

5. Zen Technologies gets patent from UK

• Zen Technologies Limited has been granted a patent by UK patent office for containerized tubular shooting range (CTSR).

• The valuable patent will give the company an exclusive right to access in many foreign markets.

• .CTSR is range-in-a-container solution, where security forces can train their personnel rapidly and efficiently than conventional ranges.

6. National Council for Transgender Persons

• The Centre has constituted a National Council for Transgender Persons through a notification. The Social Justice and Empowerment

• Minister will be the ex-officio Chairperson and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment will be ex-officio Vice- Chairperson.

• It will advise the Centre on the formulation of policies and programs, with respect to transgender persons.

1. 6.1 MN Indian youth may lose jobs in 2020
• Around 6.1 million youth in the 15-24 age group are likely to lose their jobs in 2020 if India takes
six months ending September to contain COVID-19.
• This will be around 40% of the total job losses the Asia-Pacific region is expected to witness. This
data was given by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Labor Organization
(ILO) through a joint report.

2. Google launches Kormo app in India
• Google has expanded its employment application – Kormo Jobs – to India as it is looking forward
to helping millions of Indians to land entry-level jobs.
• .The company had launched the employment application in Bangladesh in 2018 and further
expanded it to Indonesia.
• The application will help users to identify entry- level job opportunities and also to learn new
skills and create CVs.

3. Swachh Survekshan 2020 results announced
• The government announced the results of the annual survey of cleanliness, Swachh Survekshan
2020 on 20 August 2020.
• Indore once again bagged the top spot as the cleanest city of India, the fourth time in a row.
• The second and third positions in the category were grabbed by Surat and Navi Mumbai
respectively.
• This is the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey of the country.

4. India: 1st in the number of organic farmers
• India has ranked 1st in the number of organic farmers and 9th in terms of area under organic
farming, according to the Agriculture Ministry.
• Sikkim became the 1st state to become fully organic and other states including Tripura and
Uttarakhand have set similar targets.
• The major organic exports from India have been flax seeds, sesame, soybean, tea, medicinal
plants, rice, and pulses.

Sky root: 1st to test upper-stage rocket engine

  • Aerospace startup Sky root Aerospace has successfully test-fired an upper-stage rocket engine.
  • With this, it has become the first Indian private company to demonstrate the capability to build a homegrown rocket engine.
  • The 3-D printed rocket engine – Raman, named after CV Raman, has fewer moving parts and weighs less than half of conventional rocket engines with a similar capacity.

Japan has signed its largest-ever loan package

  • worth dollar 3.1 billion for Bangladesh.
  • The loan, under its Official Development Assistance (ODA), will be given for seven projects of Bangladesh under concessional terms
  • The loan will cover the construction of Jamuna railway bridge in parallel to the existing Bangabandhu Bridge, expansion of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport etc.

Saudi Arabia ends a loan to Pakistan

  • Saudi Arabia has ended a loan and associated oil supply to Pakistan.
  • This is because of Islamabad’s criticism that Riyadh-dominated Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is not doing enough on the Kashmir issue.
  • Pakistan Foreign Minister had even threatened to split OIC if the group fails to convene a stand-alone session on Kashmir

First Census of Water Bodies in J&K

  • Financial Commissioner Revenue, Dr PawanKotwal, has launched the first Census of water bodies of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • It will capture information on important parameters of water bodies like their number, size, condition, type of use, storage capacity, etc.

It will be controlled and monitored at the central level by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

KVIC set to open first Silk Training Center
Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIc) is set to open the first of its kind Training cum Production Center of Silk in the tribal village of Chullyu in Arunachal Pradesh.

Conceived just six months ago, the center will be launched in the first week of September 2020. The KVIC has refurbished and converted a dilapidated school building into the training cum production center.

India to participate in the Kavkaz exercise
India is ready to participate in the Russian Kavkaz 2020 strategic command-post exercise.

A tri-service contingent with 150 Army personnel and from Air Force and Navy will be heading to
Astrakhan in Southern Russia for the exercise.

It is scheduled for Sept 15-26, 2020 and there will be participation from 18 countries including countries who are part of SC as well as China and Pakistan.

Suresh Angadi inaugurates Malgudi Museum
Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi virtually inaugurated Malgudi

Museum at Arasalu in Karnataka’s Shivamogga.

The old station building at Arasalu has been converted into a museum.

It has been renovated keeping with ‘Malgud theme in mind.

India extends Line of Credit to Maldives

India has extended Line of Credit worth 18 million US dollars to the Govt of Maldives forthe expansion of fishing facilities at Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

The project envisages investment in fish collection and storage facilities and the setting up of a tuna cooked plant.

It is part of the 800 million US dollars line of credit offered by India.

10-acre food park to be set up at Vedasanthoor

Tamilnadu CM Edapadi K Palanisamy announced that a food park will soon be set up in 10-acre premises at Vedansathoor in Dindigul district Tamilnadu.

NIDM and IMD organize a webinar Series

National Institute of Disaster Management in collaboration with India Meteorological Department organized a webinar series on “Hydro-Meteorological Hazards Risk Reduction.

The webinar series includes four webinars focused on Thunderstorms and Lightning, Cloudburst and Floods, Cyclones and Storm Surges and Climate Change and Extreme Weather Events.

‘Bangas Awaam Mela’ held in Handwara

Locals in Handwara town celebrated the first year of abrogation of Article 370 by organizing a two-day festival “Bangas Awaam Mela”

The Annual Festival saw the participation of hundreds of Gujars, Bakarwals and other Kashmiri sightseers from Kupwara, Tangdhar and Handwara.

The Mela was conducted over 2 days commencing on August 3 with the grand finale on August 4, 2020.

First Snow Leopard Conservation Centre of India

The Uttarakhand State Government is to develop India’s first Snow Leopard Conservation centre of India. The centre is to be developed by the Uttarakhand forest department and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

A number of snow leopards have been spotted in the districts of Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi. However, the actual figures are unknown. So far, the state government has concluded that there are 86 snow leopards in the state.

The step is to promote winter tourism in the state. The state is also in the process of developing six city forests to expand the green area in the cities. This is to be achieved in city forests in Kumaon region, four in hilly districts and two in plains.

Secure Himalaya is another project being operated in India to conserve Snow Leopard. It is funded by the Global Environment Facility-United Nations Development Programme. The programme is now being operated in four states/UTs namely Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.

SABIC Plant: 1st to operate on 100% RE
The polycarbonate facility of SABIC in Spain is all set to become the world’s first large scale chemical production plant to run entirely (100 percent) on renewable energy.
SABIC is a global diversified chemical company, headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It manufactures on a global scale in America, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific, making distinctly different kinds of products.

Iran launches underground ballistic missiles
Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard launched underground ballistic missiles on 29 July 2020.
It was launched as part of a drill that targeted a replica American aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has developed and stored some of its ballistic missiles underground to protect them from being destroyed or seized by enemy countries.


ADB signs $200 million financing deal with Reliance
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a dollar 200 million financing deal with the Reliance Bangladesh LNG and Power Limited (RBLPL).
It has been signed to build and operate a 718-megawatt combined-cycle gas-fired power plant in Bangladesh.
The project will ease ongoing energy shortages and drive further private sector investments in the country’s power sector
